EMERSON AND WILD OATS MARKETS PARTNER FOR GREENER
Emerson’s integrated facility management technology proves its value for leading national organic and natural foods chain
ST. LOUIS, June 30, 2006 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today announced that its E2 Facility Management System has been installed in nearly half of the specialty foods store locations owned and operated by Wild Oats Markets, Inc.
Wild Oats Markets is just one of many national food retail chains installing Emerson’s E2 system to more efficiently monitor and manage energy consumption within their facilities. More than 40 Wild Oats Natural Marketplace stores now use the E2 system, and the retailer plans to continue upgrading other existing stores to the E2 system as well as using the E2 at all new stores. Wild Oats Markets operates 113 stores across the United States and in British Columbia.
Part of Emerson’s Intelligent Store™ architecture, the E2 Facility Management System is a control system that manages all lighting, refrigeration, HVAC, and other equipment in a store – enabling multiple stores to be monitored from a central location. Today Emerson provides this monitoring service for more than half of Wild Oats’ facilities. By collecting and analyzing data both for individual stores and for their entire network, Wild Oats can quickly identify where improvements in equipment performance need to be made. This technology has helped many supermarket operators reduce their annual energy and maintenance expenses by 10 percent or more. Using this, and other Emerson technologies, the Wild Oats location in Long Beach, California documented an annual energy savings of $39,500.
In environmental terms, the electrical kilowatt hour reduction from the Wild Oats store in Long Beach, California alone is equivalent to removing more than 44 cars from the road each year. Across the Wild Oats chain, Emerson’s energy saving technologies prevent more than 23,250,000 pounds of CO2 emissions, equivalent to removing more than 2,000 cars from the road every year.
“Our use of Emerson’s technologies has delivered greater energy and maintenance savings optimizing the equipment capability and helping us identify opportunities to further reduce our energy consumption,” said Gary Epright, national director of maintenance and energy management for Wild Oats Markets. “This technology augments Wild Oats Markets’ environmentally responsible operational practices. It enables us to continue serving our communities while minimizing our environmental impact, and achieving our mission of continually reducing our negative impact on the environment.”
The E2 system is designed, manufactured and installed by the Computer Process Controls (CPC) division of Emerson Climate Technologies. Emerson’s CPC division is the leading provider of supermarket refrigeration and building control systems in the United States and Canada. “We are proud to be working with Wild Oats and are excited that they have chosen to use many of Emerson’s products and services. It is Emerson’s goal to improve human comfort, safeguard our food, and protect the environment,” said Bill Coulombe, president of Emerson’s CPC and Retail Services. With approximately 20,000 installations and over 5,100 sites being actively monitored,
CPC and Retail Services are global leaders in facility management and monitoring systems for supermarkets, box retail, and convenience stores.
